MAIDEN NEWTON ANNUAL PARISH MEETING
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON
THURSDAY 21 APRIL 2005 AT 7.00 PM
IN COMMUNAL ROOM WEBBERS PIECE

PRESENT:

Present at the meeting were eight members of the public and PC Redfern who reported the following:
· Since the beginning of this year there has been 8 reported crimes in the area – 4 domestics, 2 burglaries, I theft of ewes and 1 motoring offence. There has also been 9 calls recorded concerning antisocial behaviour by young people. PC Redfern explained that the British Transport Police would handle any incident at the railway station.

Chairman’s Report:
Chairman Mrs Falkingham presented the attached report (App1).

Dorset County Council Report (DCC):
Cllr. Peake discussed the work of Dorset County Council including the works carried out by their Highways Department in Maiden Newton and the provision of facilities for young people in the area.

West Dorset District Council (WDDC) Report:
District Cllr. Patmore discussed aspects of the work of West Dorset District Council including level of council tax, the planned recycling phases 2 and 3, changes to the planning system, flood and coastal defence projects at West Bay and Lyme Regis, Central Villages with improved facilities and affordable housing.
PC Redfern highlighted the increasing problem of parking in villages such as Maiden Newton and questioned whether this was considered when planning applications for housing developments are agreed. Cllr. Patmore explained that there are nationally agreed guidelines for the allocation of parking for new dwellings. Cllr. Patmore added he is attending a meeting at West Dorset District Council 25/04/2005 regarding the possible transfer of the White Horse Mews Car Park and Picnic Area to the Parish Council.
Cllr. Wood supported kerbside recycling and efforts made by individuals but he pointed out the problem of disposing of large amounts of rubbish could be lessened if manufacturers could reduce the amount of packaging of products.

Transport Report:
Chairman Cllr. Mrs Falkingham presented the attached report (App2). Cllr. Peake congratulated the work of the Country Car Service. Chairman Mrs Falkingham explained, during the past year, two people had volunteered to become drivers for the Country Car Service after requiring the service themselves. Cllr. Wood questioned whether car stickers were available to drivers from the Country Car Service enabling them to park at the particular surgery or hospital - Chairman Mrs Falkingham confirmed there were.
Chairman Mrs Falkingham reported that the operators, First Somerset and Avon, of bus services 212 – Yeovil to Dorchester and 216 – Dorchester to Yeovil are currently subsidised £120,000 pa. The subsidies will be reviewed when the services are re-tendered next November.

Footpaths Report:
Chairman Cllr. Mrs Falkingham presented the attached report (App3) produced by Mr David Schofield and thanked him for his work.

Fire Engine House Report:
Cllr. Wood Parish Council Representative of the Fire Engine House Trust reported there has been no further deterioration of the building. Clerk to contact Mr Elliot to request a progress report of this project.

Any other business:
Chairman Mrs Falkingham reported Andy Lloyd, Rural Housing Enabler, Dorset Community Action had informed her Signpost are to submit provisional housing development plans to West Dorset District Council (WDDC) in the near future. Chairman Mrs Falkingham confirmed although it is 17 months since the Housing Needs Survey was carried out in Maiden Newton those who indicated a need from outside the village or those who have since moved from the village would be followed up.
