                                                                About the event part 1:

                                                                     Beginning Again

“When we live an embodied and integrated life, we can hold the essence of the Cosmos within us thus creating a life of love and connection to ourselves and with the world around us.”

We warmly invite you to join us as we create an inclusive community of practice for deepening our work ahead together. This event will be a closed, safe space, for People Of Colour to come together, heal, and be empowered. Together, through inquiry, talks and mindfulness practices, discussion, and sound energy healing and shamanism.

  • We explore heart-level intention to humanize personal and collective trauma.
  • We explore patterns around noticing, accepting, investigating and confronting bias and facing injustice - in our daily lives and the world.
  • We examine how mindfulness supports all of us, inwardly and outwardly, to create a equitable world without compromising equanimity, compassion and our experience of common humanity.
  • To raise awareness of trauma imprints and to lend context to experiences often pathologized rather than understood within a broader ecology of relationships and events.
  • Somatic (body-first) approaches are central in our healing and reconnection.

                                                                         Rhonda Magee -

                                                                      Mindfulness teacher

Whether we are new to practicing mindfulness or have been practicing for years, whether we are feeling heartbroken or relatively at ease, how do we engage every moment as a chance to begin again? In this talk, Rhonda Magee will invite reflecting on what gets in the way of the peace of simply being alive, and on awareness and inquiry practices for re-grounding every moment in belonging and joy.

Professor of Law at the University of San Francisco and an internationally-recognized thought and practice leader. Having studied with teachers including Jon Kabat Zinn, Rhonda teaches mindfulness-based interventions, awareness, and compassion practices from a range of traditions. Shey sees mindfulness meditation as key to personal, interpersonal, and collective transformation. In 2021 Rhonda will make a return visit to Parliament in an event hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness, and curated by Mindfulness Initiative and MNPC.

                                                                          Hosted by

                                                           William and Hakim

William is the founder and director of the Mindfulness Network for People of Colour, the UK’s leading organisation looking at ways in which mindfulness can be more culturally adaptive, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive for people of colour.  He is a psychotherapist with a focus on child adverse conditions, including the challenges and the effects of ‘absent fathers’ on identity, transition and belonging.

Hakim is a qualified teacher and special educational needs coordinator. He lived and worked in The Gambia for eleven years, where he set up a school and charitable foundation for young people. He first discovered meditation in 1992 at a retreat with the London Buddhist centre and has since qualified to teach mindfulness through .b and the Youth Mindfulness programme. As a parent of five children (now adults) Hakim runs groups for parents and has been trained to deliver EHCAPs Mindful Emotion Coaching for parents and teenagers. He supported the 2018 Ibme retreat. Hakim is interested in continuing to develop mindfulness within schools and the wider community.  He hosts a local community weekly radio show, engaging with music and poetry and showing how these can support mindful practice and provide opportunities to pay attention differently.
